“We have discussed the opportunity to enhance our cooperation,” Petro Poroshenko told journalists following the meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“I am grateful to NATO for supporting and developing our defense capacity, as well as for reformation, consultative and technical assistance in the development of our security and defense sector. It is very important for us and we are content with the level of our cooperation,” the Head of State noted.

The President stressed: “We are extremely grateful for the unprecedented package of NATO assistance to Ukraine. The best response to Russian aggression is strong Ukraine that achieved NATO standards. This is what we do in Ukraine”.
Petro Poroshenko emphasized that in 2017, the national annual program of cooperation with NATO would be aimed at the implementation of reforms for Ukraine to achieve NATO standards. “Starting from the next year, the entire NATO’s assistance will be fully related to the issue of reformation. Time limits are the same - 2020,” the Head of State said.
The President also noted the importance of enhancing cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in the issues of regional security, especially in the context of struggle against Russian aggression. According to him, our country is interested in the intensification of dialogue on situational awareness and interoperability. “This is a new format of cooperation in the framework of the program of enhanced opportunities. And today we have analyzed the opportunity of cooperation in this context,” the Head of State informed.
In his turn, the NATO Secretary General emphasized that regular meetings with the Ukrainian President were the evidence of a close cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.
“NATO will continue providing practical and political support, as well as support via trust funds aimed to build security institutions in Ukraine. We will also cooperate in the sphere of cybersecurity and rehabilitation of wounded servicemen,” Jens Stoltenberg informed.
