Banishing Russia from the Olympic Games just 17 days before they begin
would be one of the most momentous decisions in the history of the
International Olympic Committee (IOC). It should also be one of the easiest.
The latest revelations about the vast scale of Russian doping leave no
room for fudge or prevarication. Russia must be expelled from the Olympic
movement indefinitely when the IOC’s executive board meet today. That decision
should be done and dusted in less time than it takes a Russian secret
serviceman to prise open a urine bottle and swap samples.
