Americans are forming seemingly irreconcilable camps around the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to a seat on the Supreme Court. Judge Kavanaugh angrily and emotionally denied her accusations, and President Trump, at a rally in Mississippi Tuesday evening, mocked Dr. Blasey for gaps in her memory of the episode. The nomination has become a touchstone of the #MeToo movement, a vivid reminder of the deep chasm between men’s and women’s lived experience of sex and power.
