Forum: Ukraine’s Ongoing Battle for Freedom – The Risk of Western Failure in Political, Economic, and Humanitarian Assistance (U.S.-Ukraine Foundation)

Welcome Letter
The Save Ukraine Now Coalition together with the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, and in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine, have the honor to invite you to the Forum:  Ukraine’s Ongoing Battle for Freedom – The Risk of Western Failure in Political, Economic, and Humanitarian Assistance, to be held at the Congressional Auditorium, Capitol Visitor Center, United States Capitol in Washington, DC, on September 25, 2015.
Much of the debate in Washington concerning Russia’s war against Ukraine has understandably focused on the military and political aspects.  Yet what started as a human tragedy has developed into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe. More than 2 million people have been driven from their homes. UNICEF estimates that 1.7 million children have been affected. We believe that this development has not attracted the attention it deserves as an aspect of the public policy discourse and its impact is being seriously underestimated.

The Forum will cover all aspects of aid to Ukraine but with a major focus on the humanitarian needs. The discussions will cover assistance given by our government, the EU, international agencies and by the private sector both here and in Ukraine.
Participants are scheduled to include, among others, General Wesley Clark and, hopefully, First Lady of Ukraine, Maryna Poroshenko.
U.S. officials, who will be addressing the Forum, include Senator Rob Portman, Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, and Congressman Peter Roskam, while Ukraine’s newly-appointed Ambassador to the U.S., Valeriy Chaly, and Parliamentarian Oleksiy Skrypnyk will also be presenting.   Invitations have also been tendered to representatives of the U.S. Government, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and other international leaders.
The leaders of Ukraine’s major religious confessions from both Ukraine and the U.S. will present their unified efforts to address the humanitarian catastrophe. Organizers expect Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kyiv Patriarchate), Bishop Stanislav Szyrokoradiuk of the Roman Catholic Church, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Yaakov Dov Bleich, Sheikh Ahmed Tamim, the leader of Ukraine’s Muslim community, Bishop Valeriy Reshetinskiy of the Union of Evangelical Churches, Victor Simon, Secretary General of Caritas of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, Bishop Daniel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the U.S., and Metropolitan-Archbishop Soroka, head of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia.
To attend the Forum, please click here to Register.  There is no cost!  We will see you onSeptember 25th at the Congressional Auditorium, Capitol Visitor Center, United States Capitol in Washington, DC.

Respectfully,

Nadia McConnell
