In the course of the visit to the USA, the
President met with representatives of Jewish communities and organizations of
the United States.
The Head of State thanked for support provided
by the Jewish community in these difficult times for Ukraine. “We are fighting
for freedom and democracy, and we will manage to win this struggle only with
the assistance of the entire world,” Petro Poroshenko said.
The parties discussed challenges of Ukraine and
ways to overcome them. They emphasized the necessity of intensification of
international efforts aimed to curb Russian aggression against Ukraine as a
fact of violation of the international security system.
“It is crucially important for Ukraine to enjoy
trust,” the President noted and recalled the example of people’s trust in new
police as a symbol of state reformation, purification of authorities from
corruption and activity of the government for the benefit of Ukrainian people.
“Ukraine needs the same trust from the world and is working hard to create an
atmosphere of high confidence,” Petro Poroshenko said.
Representatives of the Jewish community assured
the President of their intention to continue to support Ukraine in addressing
the problems caused in particular by the Russian aggression.
According to the President, Ukraine will honor
the memory of victims of Babi Yar next year. The participants of the meeting
stressed the importance of commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Babi Yar
tragedy to remind the world about the danger of any manifestations of
intolerance, xenophobia and anti-Semitism.
The attendees drew attention to the oppression
experienced by the Crimean Tatars because of the annexation of Crimea by
Russia.
