President: By all available legal means will I counter the attempts to destabilize our country

The Head of State emphasized that his priority for 2017 would be the issue of ensuring political conditions for reforms and economic recovery. “I have to upset some people in Kyiv and also in Moscow where loose lipped politicians do not conceal Russian stake on artificial protests in Ukraine and early parliamentary elections. As President, by all possible legal means will I counter the attempts to destabilize our country and nullify all hard steps and the first results ensured by the authorities and gained by the Ukrainian people through suffering,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine is the top priority. “Such extremely difficult tasks as the return of Ukraine to the Donbas and the issue of de-occupation of Crimea will be resolved by political-diplomatic and international-legal means strengthening at the same time our defense capacity and our Armed Forces,” the President said at the festivities on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine.
According to the Head of State, the present level of defense capacity allows the protection of the Homeland to be the issue of not only mobilized warriors and volunteers, but also professional contractors. The President added that the NSDC meeting on the state defense order for 2017 would be held shortly.
Petro Poroshenko emphasized that Ukraine complied with the Minsk agreements despite all the difficulties. This allowed our diplomacy to win the struggle for the continuation of sanctions against the aggressor. “Herewith, we have not yielded any principled position. Moreover, we have convinced our western partners that political settlement must be preceded by obvious and undeniable progress in security issues: sustainable ceasefire, withdrawal of Russian troops and equipment, disarmament of militants, control over certain areas of the Ukraine-Russia border by the OSCE and then by the Ukrainian border guards,” the Head of State said.
“Until that, the agenda will not contain any political issues, including constitutional amendments,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
According to the President there are certain political forces in Ukraine that in a thoroughly disguised manner offer us to abandon Donbas.
“I would like to ask these politicians: did you gather those territories, so that you can throw them out? Moreover, this strategy will not bring peace. It is 100% proved. The goal of Russia is not Donetsk and Luhansk. The goal of Russia is the whole Ukraine, not only Crimea and Sevastopol,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
“It is crucially important to make changes noticeable for a wide range of Ukrainian citizens in 2017. We do our best for the people to see that the situation in the country is changing for the better,” the President noted.
“Ukraine has achieved a greater progress in the implementation of reforms over the past two years than in the first 23 years of independence”. If we had expressed such a verdict, it would have been subjective. But it is the verdict of the U.S. and the EU. Thus, it becomes more objective,” the Head of State said.
“Ukraine implements unprecedented intensive reforms in economic and political systems; its democratic institutions are being recovered” - we have worked hard and persistently to receive such an assessment by the European Commission,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
At the same time, greater efforts are required. “The existing pace of reforms is insufficient to bridge the gap between Ukraine and our European neighbors. We must follow the Olympic principle: faster, higher, stronger. Then, we will become champions,” he said.
“So many people, so many generations fought for Ukraine and sacrificed their lives. We have no right to be irresponsible, weak and inefficient,” the President concluded.
