Coca-Cola reports on the sustainable development achievements in Ukraine

Kyiv – the Coca-Cola system in Ukraine released a social responsibility report highlighting progress made in the implementation of company’s commitments to consumers, customers, partners, employees and the Ukrainian community for 2012-2014.
Although recent years were challenging for Ukraine, the company continues to take an active social position, realizing a number of social responsibility projects in line with Coca-Cola global principals and urgent needs of Ukrainians. Consumers’ well-being is an integral part of all company’s activities from the production of quality beverages, their labeling and marketing to local community support programs. The key social projects and implemented in three areas:
Promoting active lifestyle: the company promotes the revival of sports culture and
together with its long-term partner of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine annually organized such large-scale events as Olympic Day and Olympic Lesson. In partnership with the charitable organization The Klitschko Foundation the company tries to encourage students to participate actively in sports and exercises and aims at providing each Ukrainian child with easy access to basic sports infrastructure. For today 161 children's playgrounds have been already built across the country under the project "Call your friends – Let’s play together".
Building strong communities: the company is aware that the future of its business depends on the well-being of local communities. Together with its long-term partner of Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) company supports victims during emergencies, people with disabilities and vulnerable populations throughout Ukraine. In the reporting period the company provided 133,500 liters of beverages in partnership with the URCS. Since 2014 the company also has been taking care of social rehabilitation centre Emerald City in Svyatogirsk of Donetsk region. This centre became a shelter for more than 500 children relocated from war zone orphanages of Eastern Ukraine.
Protecting the environment: environmental impact minimization is one of the basic company’s principles and a part of its corporate culture. The key priorities are: water conservation, energy efficiency and climate protection, waste reduction and recycling. The company managed to reduce by 14% water consumption and by 40% energy use, required to produce 1 liter of beverage, also there was reduced the volume of PET bottles generation by 11.6% due to light-weight PET bottles. Also, numerous community projects were implemented to protect the environment, such as Every Drop Matters, Green Day, Danube Day and others.
The company remains optimistic about the future and its ongoing role in Ukraine. By continuing to drive operational performance Coca-Cola system in Ukraine will create values for all stakeholders.
