We will not allow Russia to influence the elections in Ukraine - President

President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that the authorities will do their utmost to protect the elections in our country from the interference of the Russian Federation. He stated this on the program "Freedom of Speech" on ICTV channel.
The Head of State does not agree with the experts' opinion that "the Russian authorities and Putin are sitting and waiting for the elections in Ukraine". "He is not sitting and he is not waiting. And today this is the key element of hybrid war," Petro Poroshenko said.

According to his firm conviction, when Putin realized that Ukraine has not just recovered, but has already built a new army, new Armed Forces and the full-fledged aggression will now cost Russia much more than in 2014, he decided to try to influence the electoral process.
"The price, if the Russian president decides to start an active offensive operation, will be significantly higher than in 2014, because this is not the same army. He believes it will be much cheaper to undermine the stability of Ukraine from the inside and influence the will of Ukrainian citizens. Through the mechanisms of media support, through the mechanisms of financial interference, through organizational measures, through the fifth column," the President said, reminding that "Russia also had plans for the church".
"We will not allow that. Just as we did not allow that in May 2014. Just as we did not allow that in October 2014. We were much weaker then. And we will not allow that now. We will protect Ukraine," the Head of State stressed.
Petro Poroshenko considers Putin's statement that "we will be happy to see any candidate except for Poroshenko” the highest appraisal of his work as President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
The Head of State urged young people to take an active stance and participate in the state processes, such as elections to the highest office in the country. "I think that this choice is very important for us. For young people, because this is the first generation that grew in the independent Ukraine, that was not poisoned by authoritarianism, totalitarianism of the Soviet Union. They live in real Ukraine and I appeal to you - you, dear friends, will definitely live in Ukraine, a member of the European Union and a member of NATO. But it depends on you how fast it will happen. I believe that this can be very fast, do not be indifferent," Petro Poroshenko said, urging "not to allow Russians to stop our movement to Europe by the elements of hybrid war".
"I firmly believe that recognizing the mistakes, seeing the difficulties, because one who does nothing does not make a mistake, we are confidently moving forward. We clearly know what to do and when. We clearly know how difficult the task is. But what we did in 2014-2015 was much more difficult. And I call for one thing - unity. The country must preserve unity. We have paid a very high price for this. The country must preserve patriotism. The Ukrainian people must protect their free choice," the Head of State stressed.
