Presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan agreed to develop transportation routes to China and Iran

In the framework of participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The two sides discussed the possibility of further development of bilateral trade and economic relations, including in the oil and gas and energy industries, as well as in the fields of construction, transport and communications.

It was agreed to hold in the near future the 11th session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani commission for economic cooperation.


Separately, the Presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan discussed the situation that has arisen due to the Russian embargo on Ukrainian products and a ban on transit.

In this regard, the Heads of State welcomed the successful sending of the first run of Ilyichevsk container train "Ukraine - Georgia - Azerbaijan - Kazakhstan - China". Petro Poroshenko and Ilham Aliyev of coordinated action required for the development of transit route across the Caspian Sea to China and Iran.

The Azerbaijani side confirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko and Ilham Aliyev discussed the preparations for the meeting of the Council of Presidents of the two states in 2016 in Baku.


The two sides also agreed to intensify cooperation within GUAM. In this context, the President of Ukraine congratulated the representative of Azerbaijan, who was elected to the post of Secretary General of GUAM.
