President Petro Poroshenko expects the European
Commission to announce the decision tomorrow on the introduction of the
visa-free regime between Ukraine and the Schengen area.
"This is why I came to Brussels. To
eliminate all the obstacles and announce that Ukraine has fulfilled the
criteria of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan," the President said in
the course of the press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens
Stoltenberg.
The President called this decision extremely
important for Ukraine and Ukrainians that have been waiting for it for 7 years.
"I was standing at the beginning of this process. I think all of us
understand how important it is. It is the first tangible result of our
cooperation with the EU and I hope that the European Commission will be ready
to submit the legislative initiative on the abolishment of the visa regime with
Ukraine in the first half of 2016," Petro Poroshenko said.
The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine would
continue implementing systemic reforms in the sphere of justice, internal
affairs and struggle against corruption, including the functioning of
anti-corruption and asset recovery agencies.
"Our success on the track of reforms is the
only guarantee of positive decision by the European Parliament on the
introduction of the visa-free regime. We should understand that it is an
important stage," the President noted.
The President informed that during his visit to
Brussels he had conducted a series of meeting with leaders of the EU countries
who had clearly stated that they would be guided by the conclusion of the
European Commission in their decision.
