President Petro Poroshenko signed Law of Ukraine № 856-VIII on the
Foreign Broadcasting System of Ukraine adopted by the Parliament on December 8.
According to the Head of State, the Law is important for Ukraine. “Today, in
conditions of hybrid war, it is the issue of state survival and efficient
response to propaganda of the country-aggressor against Ukraine,” the President
said.
Unprejudiced presentation of information on the situation in Ukraine
should be the main criterion of the foreign broadcasting. “This should be the
criterion of efficient information policy. We shouldn’t copy propaganda methods
of the country-aggressor. On the contrary, our journalists should tell the
truth about the war in Ukraine and gain trust this way,” the Head of State
emphasized.
The President thanked everyone who joined the elaboration of the Law –
people’s deputies and the Ministry of Information Policy.
Minister of Information Policy Yurii Stets assured the President the
reform of foreign broadcasting would be completed in two months. “The world
should know Ukraine as a state having not only problems, but also rich history
and culture, good investment climate, great tourist opportunities and kind people,”
he said. Yurii Stets noted that Petro Poroshenko had been standing at the
origins of freedom of speech in Ukraine. He believes that the Law would yield
results soon.
Besides, the President noted the necessity of restoring Ukrainian
broadcasting in the areas of Donbas liberated from occupation, as well as
telling the truth about the situation to the occupied territories.
