US Secretary of State insists on genuine ceasefire in Donbas

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has stressed the need for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements and, above all, for implementation of a genuine ceasefire, during a conversation on the situation in Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Sochi.

This is reported by the press service of the U.S. State Department, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"Both President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov reiterated their desire to see Minsk fully implemented, and we talked about ways in which we might be able to accelerate that and break down some of the mistrust on both sides which has prevented that from happening," the press service quoted Kerry as saying.

Besides, Kerry said that he had discussed with Russian leaders the tense situation near the village of Shyrokyne and at the Donetsk Airport, as well as the need for withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line. He reiterated that easing of sanctions against the Russian Federation is possible only in case of the full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Kerry also said that before his visit to Sochi he had a conversation with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. "I will have a further conversation with him to debrief him with respect to the meetings here today," he said.
