Ukrainian President on Gazprom’s statements: Contracts do not envisage the right of their unilateral termination

“Contracts do not envisage the right of their unilateral termination. Such statements of Gazprom can be explained only by the reluctance to fulfill their contractual obligations,” President Petro Poroshenko noted in a meeting in the ad hoc center.
The Head of State is confident that “in case this happens, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine will certainly appeal to arbitration for additional compensation for the damage caused by the irresponsible actions of Gazprom.

The President drew attention to incorrect information that the arbitration tribunal based its decisions regarding the transit contract on a supposedly difficult economic situation in Ukraine. "This is definitely not true. The tribunal explained its decision by saying that NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine requires compensation for losses in connection with the failure of Gazprom to fulfill its contractual obligations on 110 billion cubic meters that were reasonable," he said.
Petro Poroshenko emphasized that “these actions of Gazprom highlight its unreliability as a supplier”. He also informed that a day before a meeting had been initiated with foreign ambassadors accredited in Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed our partners of the steps to be taken.
