Russia will pay high price for its aggression

The President had an interview with BBC and shared his opinion on the aggression of Russia in Syria, the results of the Paris meeting in the Normandy format and described present situation in Donbas.

Answering the question of BBC journalist about Putin's goal in Syrian conflict, the President noted: "It is absolutely clear. He wants global destabilization. Just as 18 months ago, when Russian soldiers emerged in Crimea, destabilized the situation and annexed Crimea in the style of the Anschluss of 1938. Just as 15 months ago, when Russian militaries emerged in Donbas... Now they are in Syria. The goal is the same. Losing economic competitiveness, internal support and stability, Russia is trying to destabilize global security and order," Petro Poroshenko said.

The Head of State reminded that from the very beginning of the Russian aggression, Ukraine had presented irrefutable evidence of Russian regular troops' presence in Ukraine. Terrorists were backed by Russia, which supplied them with military vehicles, tanks, MANPADS and reactive volley-fire systems.

"Post-war global security system based on the UN Charter and efficient functioning of the UN Security Council has been completely destroyed after the Russian aggression in Crimea and Donbas," the President emphasized.

Petro Poroshenko also described the situation in Syria as "complete destabilization" as a result of Russian military intervention.

"I think Russia will receive an opposite result. Just as we demonstrated the efficiency of our coordination with Europe, USA and all Transatlantic partners and stopped Russian aggression. Just as we "asked" Russia through the mechanism of sanctions to be responsible for an absolutely irresponsible and aggressive behavior against Ukraine," the President noted.
