The Art of Free Flight or a Brief Essay on the True History of Ukrainian Aeronautics First line

First line

Located almost on the very Ukrainian-Romanian border, the village was called Shuyan (do not think, nothing to do with the French Chouans). In this small Transcarpathian village, no one has ever heard of a seagull named Livingston, nor of the Glittering World. Not to mention all sorts of Ariels, Phaetons or ordinary Indian levitation enthusiasts.
The vast majority of residents were interested in used Mercedes, frontier trade and petty smuggling. The contingent of the village consisted of pragmatic, cunning and suspicious people.
In short, philosophical reflections and spiritual quests were not in trend here.
One lady, and indeed in general, said simply and clearly in Russian: “Philosophy must be banned!” One lady actually said simply and clearly in Russian: "Philosophy must be banned!" At the same time, she looked around with such a victorious air that there were no brave men to openly object, even if they were, which in itself is unlikely.
Well, for such a phrase as “Umberto Eco”, said in the wrong place, it was easy to get in the face.
Hence, at the present time there were no objective conditions for the comprehension by an individual of such a socially significant, and perhaps even mystical phenomenon as the art of a free flight. It is noteworthy that this very term “the art of free flight” (as it often happens) appeared much later, after the Levitan uprising.
Shuyan customs officials were divided into two informal antagonistic groups: black customs officers and white customs officers. At present, the division of customs officers by color had a secondary role.
Like the white customs officers, so the black customs officers were bitter bribe-takers, whose inner state can be described in a simple sentence – “bestial lust for gain based on pathological greed”.
White customs officers were a kind of guardians of corruption, the so-called “honest bribe-takers”, who, at least, do not quit, fulfilling agreements for bribes, while strictly observing the rules – “money in the morning – chairs in the evening.”
Black customs officers, the so-called “pirates of the shadow economy”, did not see any edges in the boundless ocean of Ukrainian corruption, throwing over their hips right and left, both their own and others, they were distinguished by an extreme degree of unscrupulousness and could change at least three times in a minute.
A strange and incredible, but obvious fact, which over time gave rise to many scientific hypotheses of modern levitation historians, was the exit from such a toxic environment, such a pure and mysterious figure, such a Joseph Knecht of a free atmosphere aeronautics, such a guru of pure air mindset, such a genius of spiritual levitation, as he was called many years later by enthusiastic followers), ordinary customs officer M., who at that time held a position with a slightly surrealistic title “state inspector of the customs clearance department of the Shuyan-2 customs post.”
