Erdogan approves military alliance with Azerbaijan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a decree on the ratification of the Shusha Declaration on military cooperation with Azerbaijan, RIA Novosti reports. The declaration assumes that the two countries will act together in the event of a threat or aggression from a third state. The parliaments of Azerbaijan and Turkey have already approved this document. The declaration will come into force after the official publication on the website of the Turkish government.

The Shusha Declaration was signed by the heads of the two states in June 2021 in the city of Shusha after the resumption of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Its signing in Baku is considered a historic event.
