Electronic declaration of
assets must start in Ukraine on August 15, and it is inadmissible to postpone
it and it is not considered, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.
"Corruption should be
rooted out, but it is better to prevent it… We need the effective control over
income and expenses of officials, judges, prosecutors and all law enforcers… We
have a tool for this control. This is electronic declaration of all assets that
will be launched from August 15. I say once again: everyone must turn the
pockets out before society from August 15 – I do not consider other date and I
do not even want to hear about the postponement! I ask not to believe rumors
and speculations," Poroshenko said in comments posted on the president's
website on Thursday.
He said that imperfectness of
the relevant law and obvious incompleteness of software cannot be a ground for
the postponement.
"I would not permit any
maneuvers here! This is my strong political will as the Ukrainian president. It
fully meets the will of people… I personally did much to make it real, and I
would not allow anyone to backpedal!" Poroshenko said.
He said that electronic
declaration is irreversible and it is "an integral part of all our
anti-corruption mechanism."
"Let my words be the
countdown until August 15. Our Armed Forces are holding the frontline against
external enemy, the Russian aggressor. My order as Supreme Commander-in-Chief
is no step back in war against corruption, our key internal enemy," he
said.
