President has gathered the War Cabinet: Time-synchronized rising tension in Donbas and attempt to undermine the situation in the deep rear

The President of Ukraine and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Petro Poroshenko is conducting the meeting of the War Cabinet of the National Security and Defence Council where the situation in the ATO area and the situation resulting from the bandit actions in Mukacheve are discussed.

Viktor Muzhenko, Chief of General Staff, reported on a challenging environment in the ATO area where the enemy forces extension and regrouping towards potentially dangerous areas were observed.

The Head of State emphasized the time-synchronized rising tension at the contact line in Donbas and attempt to undermine the situation in the deep rear thousands of kilometers from the front where people with heavy armament appeared, which looked rather strange. The President stressed that during the war, attempts to undermine the situation had highly significant adverse effects on the country’s defence as well the national defence capability in general and the government shall prevent such actions.

“This is a campaign to discredit true patriots of Ukraine. No political party shall ever have any armed cells. No political organization shall ever be entitled to establish common criminal groups,” the President said. The Head of State emphasized that the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, and other law-enforcement agencies shall perform their duty and disarm all illegal armed groups.

The Head of State stressed that Mukacheve events gave evidence of a number of pressing issues that required urgent attention. “We have to solve our old problems requiring immediate solution. I mean the clans, smuggling, corruption, etc. A picture of current events is not just black and white. It is completely black,” the President said.

The President stressed that the conflict in Mukacheve is the result of the redistribution of smuggling flows. The President said that he required prompt and meaningful actions from law enforcement agencies in combating smuggling. "A though and fundamental investigation of all those involved in such events must be conducted. Search, detention, and direct criminal responsibility. Neither deputy seats nor powerful connections will help," Petro Poroshenko said. The Head of State told the staff to make relevant staff changes in the region following the investigation.

"Smuggling is not just a problem of the Transcarpathian Region. These evil forces took a stand against us when we started the fight. Smugglers of the Transcarpathian Region launched a challenge against Ukraine. I want to make a statement that we accept the challenge,” Petro Poroshenko said.
