President Petro Poroshenko noted that he would do everything to return #Nadiya_Savchenko to Ukraine alive and as soon as possible. "As President,
I am ready to use my constitutional right and exchange Nadiya; to do everything
possible to bring her back home alive," Petro Poroshenko said at the press
conference following the meeting with the President of Turkey. At the same
time, the Head of State emphasized that "reliable sources have not offered
to exchange Nadiya Savchenko in the course of these two years".
According to the President, today is the day of international solidarity
with Nadiya Savchenko, Ukrainian officer who has been illegally imprisoned by
Russia for two years already. "Today, our main task is to save
Nadiya," Petro Poroshenko said noting tremendous efforts of the recent
days aimed at involving the international community in the liberation of
Nadiya.
"Pursuant to my instruction, over the past days, the Ukrainian
authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has been urging our
international partners and global leaders to enhance pressure on Russia. You
have seen the statements of the European leaders, the United States and other
international partners of Ukraine," the President said.
The Head of State urged the world leaders to enhance pressure on Russia,
liberate Nadiya Savchenko and increase sanctions against Moscow if necessary.
Answering the question on non-admission of Ukrainian doctors to Nadiya
Savchenko, the President noted: "The situation of Nadiya Savchenko in
Russia cannot be called a court anywhere in the world. It is a farce and a
show trial".
The Head of State informed that pursuant to his instruction, Foreign
Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin had reached an agreement with his Russian
colleague Sergey Lavrov on providing access to Nadiya Savchenko for Ukrainian
doctors. "Unfortunately, this agreement has been disrupted due to Russia's
fault," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
"Nadiya Savchenko is a Ukrainian pilot, Ukrainian officer. She was
doing things any Ukrainian citizen in military uniform must do. She was
defending her native land. Then, she was forcibly and illegally abducted from
Ukraine in Donbas and forcibly taken to the Russian Federation. Now, they are
trying to assign crimes to Nadiya, but she has nothing to do with them,"
the President noted adding that "the truth will be restored".
