Ukraine has reduced the reliance on Russia

Ukraine has reduced the dependence on the Russian Federation, by cutting the volume of purchases of natural gas as compared to last year, more than twofold. Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn told during a public report of the Gov’t members belonging to the economic bloc to inform about the implementation of the Action Programme for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"In 2014 we bought 14 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia, while this year – less than 6 billion cubic meters", said Volodymyr Demchyshyn.
He also informed that in 2016 Ukraine planned to receive up to 40% of nuclear fuel from Europe. "We have signed a contract with Westinghouse, have signed an agreement with Areva, and we are engaged in diversifying nowadays. During 2016 the amount of 40% of nuclear fuel will be imported from the European countries", stressed the Minister.

"A lot has been achieved during the year to ensure successful passing of the heating season and to stabilize the system," Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said.
