Ukrainians should feel the results of struggle against corruption as soon as possible

President Petro Poroshenko took part in the second session of the National Anti-Corruption Council. The Head of State noted that he was not satisfied with the results of struggle against corruption. He emphasized that ordinary Ukrainians should feel those results from the very first days of 2016. "We must prove that the system we've been creating for the entire year has finally started functioning and bringing good results," Petro Poroshenko said.

The President warned against soothing reports on the first phase of anti-corruption activities. "It seems that we are moving forward and certain progress has been achieved already. No, we are just creating the institutional structure and preconditions for the inevitability of punishment. I am not satisfied with the results at the moment, notwithstanding the fact that every week senior officials are being detained for bribes," the Head of State noted.

At the same time, speaking of the first concrete results of struggle against corruption, the President informed that the day before, the Security Service had detained officials of central executive authorities for the bribe in the amount of USD 250,000. "For only one signed paper. Where? In defensive enterprises. It is not just corruption, it is looting," Petro Poroshenko said. The President thanked Head of the Security Service Vasyl Hrytsak for the intensive work. He also addressed Head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Artem Sytnyk and Chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution Nazar Kholodnytskyi: "These are your clients now. With our decisive actions, we should demonstrate that new times have come to Ukraine. There are no more posts or political documents that can help avoid fair punishment for corruption.

The Head of State emphasized that during his visit to Ukraine, U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden announced that the U.S. would provide assistance in the anti-corruption activity. "Major part of those USD 190 million brought as additional technical aid will be allocated for the creation of efficient law enforcement and anti-corruption bodies," the President informed. He is hopeful that other donors and partners of Ukraine would join that process. "We are talking not only about money. We are talking about trust, when they take part in the process and confirm with their funds and advisors that Ukraine is moving in the right direction today," Petro Poroshenko noted.
