President honored memory of Ukrainian warriors fallen in Afghanistan


On the Day of Remembrance of Combatants in the Territory of Other States, President Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of laying flowers to the Memorial complex to Ukrainians fallen in Afghanistan.


The attendees honored memory of the deceased with a moment of silence.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy, meme era of the government, military and representatives of NGOs.
In his address, Petro Poroshenko noted that the Ukrainian servicemen decently fulfilled their duty, demonstrated loyalty to military oath, courage and heroism. According to him, about 160 thousand Ukrainians were involved in the war in Afghanistan.
“A generation parched by the flames of armed conflicts has become an active participant in the development of the Ukrainian state. Afghan warriors have played their role in the Revolution of Dignity. Their combat experience is a reason of many victories in the struggle against the Russian aggressor for independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the President said.
The Head of State thanked veterans for courage in the protection of the Homeland today. For the experience they share with the young generation of defenders, for their selfless work for the sake of the great future of the state. He wished them a strong health, success and welfare.
