Production of M16 rifles to be set up in Ukraine based on US government license

Ukrainian defense industry’s major player Ukroboronprom, in cooperation with the U.S.-based Aeroscraft will be launching production in Ukraine of the U.S.-designed M16 rifles, that’s according to the Ukrainian state holding’s deputy director Serhiy Korobov.

"We have a pilot project for the production of M16 rifles in Ukraine. I hope that in a very short period of time we will get to its practical implementation. And we are now signing all the necessary documents," Korobov told a press conference Tuesday. Aeroscraft CEO Igor Pasternak and Ukroboronprom leadership during the presser signed off a memorandum, stating that Aeroscraft would provide Ukroboronprom with a license from the U.S. Government on the production of small arms.

According to Pasternak, the license has been granted to Aeroscraft by the U.S. Government in late 2016. As noted by representatives of the holding, in the early stages, the production of M16 rifles is planned to be aimed at the domestic market.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in October, Ukroboronservis, which is part of Ukroboronprom, and the Slovak company Grand Power S.R.O. signed an agreement on joint production of small arms in Ukraine. In particular, the parties agreed on the production of K100 pistols and K105 subcompact machine guns.
