Ukrainian President: UN resolution assigns status of invader to Russia and enshrines its responsibility for the brutal violation of human rights in Crimea

President Petro Poroshenko praises the adoption of the UN GA Resolution “Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)”.
“I am sincerely grateful to all partners for support and participation in the elaboration of that important document. From now on, the given Resolution assigns status of invader and full responsibility for the brutal violation of human rights in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine - the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol - to Russia at the highest international level,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The Head of State noted that the given decision of the UN General Assembly “is the most important sign of international unity and solidarity in times when the worst practices of the Soviet Union are used in Crimea, including methods of “punitive psychiatry”, show trials, abductions, tortures and even intentional murder of people who openly protest against Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories”.
“Today’s decision is a demonstration of broad support of the international law and basic values of post-war world order. The aggressor must feel high price for crimes committed in the Ukrainian territories,” the President emphasized.
Petro Poroshenko noted: “The most efficient and non-alternative way to restore justice is full de-occupation and restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty over the Crimean peninsula. Crimea is Ukraine. We continue struggle”.
