In the course of the meeting with representatives of the defrauded depositors of Mykhailivskyi Bank, President Petro Poroshenko signed Law of Ukraine on Amendments to Several Laws of Ukraine on Reimbursement for Individuals Affected by Fraud in Banking and Other Financial Services through the Deposit Guarantee System.
The Head of State reminded that due to the joint efforts of the Government, Ministry of Finance, Deposit Insurance Fund, National Bank of Ukraine, Presidential Administration and with participation of defrauded depositors, the draft law had been elaborated in order to solve the problem of deceived citizens.
“The legislative mechanism has been worked out to ensure compensation through the Deposit Insurance Fund and turn the red light to frauds, and even more so – to increase responsibility not only of bank owners and management involved in the criminal scheme, but also of financial institutions – participants of those schemes,” the President said.
The Head of State thanked the depositors for finding common solution to that issue: “It means that both government and people have learned to listen to one another and solve common problems. This law is the compromise, which allows a huge number of citizens to get their money,” he noted.
Petro Poroshenko expressed gratefulness to the people’s deputies who had endorsed that Law. “I am grateful to the depositors who came to the Parliament yesterday with their treaties,” the Head of State said adding that they were not like those people who joined manifestations for money imitating depositors of Mykhailivskyi Bank and could not tell any specific information about their deposits and did not know the location of the bank.
The President stressed that the given law would significantly increase responsibility of such financial institutions and their owners.
According to the Head of State, 20 days after enactment of the law and verification of all documents in compliance with the law, the Deposit Insurance Fund will start repayment for the defrauded depositors.
The representative of the defrauded depositors expressed gratitude to the President that an opportunity to solve the problem of people had been found in such a difficult time for the country.
