"I heartily congratulate you on the important event – the 73rd anniversary of victory in the battle for the capital of Ukraine, which became one of the crucial moments in the Second World War and a symbol of soldiers' great sacrifice," Poroshenko said in his statement, posted on the official website on Sunday, November 6.

"I express my deep filial gratitude to the participants in that heroic encounter for their feats and for a blessing that we can live and work in our native land," he said. The president called on the public to honor the memory of those who died in the struggle for freedom and independence of Ukraine.

Poroshenko said he is convinced that the great achievements and victories of the older generations will always serve an inexhaustible source of inspiration, wisdom and unity for Ukrainians and will remain a bright example to the modern defenders of Ukraine's sovereignty. "I wish you all the peaceful sky, good health and success in the name of Ukraine," the president said.
