On 27-28 October the Eastern
Partnership Youth Conference “Youth for Rights” took place in Bratislava,
Slovakia. The conference was organised by the Eastern Partnership Civil Society
Forum (EaP CSF) under the patronage of the Slovak Presidency in the Council of
the European Union.
The conference gathered 145
young activists from all six partner countries, Russia and the EU who advocate
human rights and democratic development of their societies. The event was
opened by the video address from H.E. Andrej Kiska, President of the Slovak
Republic, and Katarina Mathernova, Deputy Director General, DG NEAR, European
Commission.
“The Iron Curtain used to
be just 1 km away from here, you have not experienced it, but you face many
other issues,” Katarina Mathernova said. “Your generation fills me with
the hope and optimism for the future. You are best suited to address the
challenges in your countries and work with the communities at the local level.”
On this occasion, participants
discussed challenges and perspectives for the youth in the Eastern Partnership
with focus on democracy and human rights, environment, inclusions and
diversity, education and work, and adopted the declaration.
The results of the conference
will be presented during the EaP CSF Annual Assembly, which will take place on
28-29 November 2016 in Brussels, and during the next meeting of the Eastern
Partnership Multilateral Platform 4 on 15 December 2016.
