The Republic of Croatia is ready to share its experience with Ukraine on
how to bring national legislation in compliance with the European Union’s
standards and to ensure reintegration of the occupied territories.
Commenting on the results of his meeting with the Head of the Ukrainian
Government Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković said:
"Being the youngest EU’s member we have offered today a recent know-how
regarding the association process of Ukraine and the European Union as we have
passed a long way and our specialists are prepared. We suggested consulting
assistance in the process of translation, synchronization of legislation and
elaboration of legislative documents that are required on this way".
Croatia will share expertise on reintegration of the occupied territories,
said Andrej Plenković. He noted that Croatia had suffered the occupation
of the territories in the early 90-ies: "We are the only member of the
European Union that can realize the security situation in Ukraine, in which it
occurred today", he said.
The Croatian Government has appointed the Deputy Minister of Foreign and
European Affairs of Croatia to lead the working group, which included
specialists who were directly involved in the process of peaceful integration
of Podunavlje with Croatia and have extensive experience to help
Ukraine in this process.
He also acknowledged commitment on the speedy completion of the
ratification of the Association Agreement and the introduction of the EU
free-visa regime for Ukraine.
According to him, this decision must be made as soon as possible, because
Ukraine has fulfilled all the requirements set for months ago. The
liberalization of the visa regime for Ukraine would also contribute to the
development of cooperation in various fields not only with Croatia but with all
member-countries of the EU.
In turn, Volodymyr Groysman thanked the Croatian Government for the
establishment of a special group that has particular expertise in the
reintegration of the occupied territories and resolution of conflicts.
"Croatia has had a difficult history. Such experience is invaluable for
us. So I am very grateful for the initiative," he noted.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to Croatia for the support of
Ukraine along the way towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, in
particular in the ratification of the Association Agreement with the European
Union and the introduction of a visa-free regime.
Croatia and Ukraine have a great potential of bilateral cooperation, namely
in trade and economic areas, tourism, joint investment in the economies of the
countries, accentuated Volodymyr Groysman.
