Prime Minister: Since January 1st no employed Ukrainian citizen should receive wage under UAH 3,200

The Government will initiate a twofold increase in the minimum wage – up to UAH 3200. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman on opening a Government’s meeting on Wednesday.

"We offer that in 2017 the minimum wage in Ukraine amount UAH 3,200. We will provide a twofold increase of the minimum wage in the country. This means that from 1 January, no citizen of Ukraine shall get less than UAH 3,200", said Volodymyr Groysman, when presenting the Government's decision.

The Prime Minister noted that this initiative had been previously discussed with the President of Ukraine, representatives of the coalition factions of the Parliament, within the Government, and a common decision found that enables making first steps to restore order and to change work evaluation system.

The Head of Government stressed that labour of Ukrainian citizens was undervalued, and added it was crucial to create a system to properly assess the labour of Ukrainian citizens.

At that, the Prime Minister reminded that the Government had recently adopted the consumer basket, which in 2017 would make up UAH 3,200. Thus, for the first time in 25 years of independence the minimum wage coincides with the real, actual and legal living wage.
