PM: Government is devising mechanisms to increase the export potential of Ukrainian farmers

The Government is engaged in work to increase export potential and expand markets of domestic products, particularly for agricultural producers.

"Today, the Ministry of Economy [the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine – ed.] together with colleagues, we are developing tools to increase our export potential, to enter new markets or expand the existing ones. In fact, we see here the opportunities: on the one hand - to support our agricultural sector in order to increase productivity and volumes of production, as well as assortment of goods, and on the other hand - to help our farmers to sell products abroad", said Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during the consideration of amendments to the Procedure of the use of funds envisaged in the state budget for the support of farmers at the Government meeting on Thursday.

Speaking of small farmers, Volodymyr Groysman noted that the Government is elaborating appropriate decisions, including to provide with necessary infrastructure, in order to create conditions for their cooperation “where they can form a common position regarding the sale of their products in other markets".

The Prime Minister thanked farmers “who wake up at dawn and work in earnest, occupy leading positions among the countries of the world in the production of agricultural products".

However, it is necessary to move from the commodity economy to increasing the level of processing, "to produce a Ukrainian national product, which is environmentally friendly and enters world top list according to various indicators", urged the Head of Government.

"We should introduce new technologies and boost productivity, but on the other hand, to deepen processing. Those are the important things that we should support at the government level, enabling us to stay in the lead and improve performance", said Volodymyr Groysman.
