Large-scale reserve force drills kick off in Ukraine

Over 8,000 army reservists will take part in military exercises

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will hold a large-scale military reservist training within September.

The drills seek to improve the combat readiness of servicemen as well as preserve their experience gained during the Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine.

Over 8,000 reservists will join 9 brigades in all operation commands, according to the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.  


A practical part of the drills will take place at firing grounds in five Ukrainian regions. Reservists will perform tasks in a full conformity with their professional duties and won't be involved in any fatigue duties.

"During the training, reservists will come to their units, will perform tasks with assigned equipment within their professional duties. The feature of these drills is that around one thousand reservists join each brigade"Mykhailo Shcherbyna, chief of reservist service of Ukraine's Armed Forces, explained.

At the moment, there are around 85,000 reservists, who were previously mobilized for the anti-terrorist operation in Donbas. The military drills are designed to help them keep their level of professionalism and improve their combat readiness.
