We open new chapter in special partnership between our countries - negotiations between President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Malaysia



President Petro Poroshenko noted constructive and fruitful negotiations with Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak and expressed gratitude for hospitality of the Malaysian side. The Head of State emphasized that it was a great honor for him to be the first Ukrainian President making an official visit to Malaysia.

“I am impressed with high speed of economic growth of your country. Visiting Petronas Twin Towers, I saw symbols of fast progress of Malaysia and ambitious goals set by hard-working people,” the President said delivering the joint press statement with the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine considered Malaysia an important partner in Asia Pacific. “We agreed on the necessity of maintaining active dialogue at the high level,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
The President thanked Malaysia and its Prime Minister for consistently supporting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. In 2014, Malaysia voted in favor of the UN GA resolution condemning the illegal annexation of Crimea and aggression against Ukraine, as stated by the President.
“Despite geographic distance, our countries have a 25-year history of mutually beneficial relations and fruitful cooperation. I am convinced that today we are opening a new chapter in the special partnership between Ukraine and Malaysia,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
During the negotiations, the parties have discussed, inter alia, humanitarian issues, strengthening people to people contacts and tourism; considered the possibility of restoration of education of Malaysian students in Ukrainian universities. The President of Ukraine said that the agreements on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters would protect the interests of citizens of both countries more effectively.
The President invited the Prime Minister of Malaysia to visit Ukraine.
In his turn, Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak expressed hope that the Ukraine-Malaysia relations would be further enhanced. “I am sure that we have started a new page in our relations,” he said.
Najib Razak agreed with Petro Poroshenko on the “existence of great opportunities for cooperation in both countries”. He also congratulated the Ukrainian President on successful holding of reforms that make Ukraine more attractive for foreign investors.
