Ukraine bagged its first bronze medal at the 2016
Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro when 25-year-old athlete Olha Kharlan from the
Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv won her bout in the Fencing Women's Sabre individual
competition against France's Manon Brunet late on Monday.
The score in the bronze medal bout was 15:10. Earlier, Kharlan beat Mexico's Ursula Gonzalez Garate (15:8) in the round of 32, countrywoman Alina Komashchuk (15:8) in the round of 16, and Italy's Loreta Gulotta in the fourth quarterfinal (15:14).

In the second semifinal, she, however, lost to Russia's Yana Egorian, who went on to win the gold medal in the women's sabre individual competition. The silver medal was awarded to another Russian athlete Sofya Velikaya.
