Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Services of Ukraine Hennadiy Zubko has said Ukraine will not transfer the right to host the song contest Eurovision 2017 to any other country.
"Ukraine has won this right due to the fact that it is a consolidated unitary country, having a charming representative of the Crimean Tatars - Jamala. Don't you think that Ukraine will miss this opportunity. We have proved Ukraine is an investment-attractive state now, which brings reforms into action and is ready to attract investments from around the world by means of Eurovision as well," the vice premier said on 5 TV channel.
Zubko said he expected decentralization to be a benefit in preparations to hold the contest.
"Decentralization will show much and help to determine the way the competition should be held, as the process of selecting the city where it can take place," Zubko said.
As reported, Ukrainian singer Jamala, with the song "1944", won the final of the Eurovision 2016 song contest in Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday. Following the voting of the national juries of the countries participating in Eurovision 2016 and the viewers' voting via SMS messages Jamala scored 534 points.
In accordance with the competition rules, Eurovision 2017 is to be held in the country in which the previous year's winner is a citizen.
Mayors of the four regional centers of Ukraine (Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv) have already expressed their willingness to stage Eurovision 2017 in their cities. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the capital would properly prepare to host Eurovision "at the highest level." Klitschko named the Olympiysky National Sports Complex, which is located at the center of Kyiv, as the one of possible venues for holding the contest.
