President urges Parliament to be responsible in forming new coalition and Government next week

President Petro Poroshenko expects the Parliament to form a new coalition and choose a new Prime Minister during the next week.

“I agree that the country can no longer put up with the absence of the authorities. That is why I expect the Parliament to bring good news the next week,” the Head of State said in the interview with Ukrainian TV channels.

“They must form a coalition. It is very popular today to have a right to criticize, but not to assume responsibility, enter the coalition and vote. It is irresponsible for the country. I hope that the majority of people’s deputies will be responsible, form a coalition and submit a candidature for Prime Minister to me on Tuesday,” the President added. The Head of State expects a newly-established coalition to propose Volodymyr Groysman for Prime Minister. However, he is ready to work with any Prime Minister.

The Head of State is confident that another composition of the Parliament will not be better. That is why it is necessary to look for a solution to the political crisis with the current composition.

“Probably, I am the first President who doesn’t want and will not let confrontation with the Parliament and Government. I do not have another Parliament. Another Parliament will not be better. In this situation, we must ensure that the Parliament fulfills its promises made during the signature of the coalition agreement and finishes the process of reforms,” the Head of State noted.

The President also expects the Parliament to adopt the Program of Actions of the Government, which should include a list of draft laws on cooperation with the IMF and fulfillment of Ukraine’s obligations under the Association Agreement, DCFTA, Plan of Actions on the Visa-Free regime and Minsk agreements.

“I am confident that we can achieve decent results, inter alia, in the economic sphere,” the President concluded.

The Head of State is willing to begin consultations on the candidate for Prosecutor General immediately after the formation of a new coalition.
