Vladyslava Rutytska, the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food
of Ukraine for European Integration, announced that the Ministry had begun
preparing the American Trade and Investment Mission to Ukraine while commenting
on the results of a meeting with Darrell Upshaw, the head of Office of Trade
Capacity and Development of the United States Department of Agriculture, and
Dwight Wilder, the Agricultural Attaché of the Foreign Agriculture Service at
the United States Embassy to Ukraine. The discussion
dealt with the preparation for the upcoming American Trade and Investment Mission
to Ukraine headed by Michael Scuse, the United States Deputy Secretary of
Agriculture.
“The United States is a strategic partner for Ukraine. The Trade and
Investment Mission is another chance and also a challenge for the
Ukrainian agriculture sector. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy presents several
priority directions which are the most attractive for investors:
-modernization of irrigation systems in the South of Ukraine;
-development of agricultural logistics, in particular, the river logistics;
-construction and updating of agricultural infrastructure (transportation,
storage, transhipment and port logistic of agricultural products);
-implementation of advanced technologies in the agricultural industry
(including the development of information technologies in the agricultural
sector);
-processing industry, manufacturing of products with high added value;
-development of small and medium farms;
-cooperation in the sphere of agricultural machinery and equipment for
processing, and the leasing of agricultural machinery;
-cooperation in the sphere of the seed industry and plant breeding;
-cooperation in the sphere of livestock production and genetics.
These are the most promising directions, and where the applied investments
should triple the efficiency”, the Deputy Minister stressed.
Moreover, the Deputy Minister noted that, currently, Ukraine and the USA
had accorded 15 veterinary certificates, thus allowing the countries to
increase the volume of trade.
In turn, the American part mentioned the positive progress of agricultural
sector reforms and assured of its readiness to support the agricultural sector
of Ukraine.
The American Trade and Investment Mission is expected to be held on June
14-16, 2016.
