President of
Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with President of the European Parliament Martin
Schulz in Brussels.
The Head of
State praised the development of interparliamentary cooperation between Ukraine
and the EU and expressed gratitude for organizing the days of Ukraine in the
European Parliament. The parties coordinated positions on visa liberalization
for Ukraine and discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Martin Schulz
assured of the European Parliament’s willingness to endorse the introduction of
the visa-free regime for Ukrainians this year.
Petro
Poroshenko emphasized that the Ukrainian Parliament has a majority to approve
the European integration laws.
The Head of
State addressed the President of the European Parliament with a call for
increasing pressure on Russia in order to ensure immediate release of Nadiya
Savchenko and other Ukrainians illegally kept in Russian prisons.
Petro
Poroshenko conveyed sanction proposals of Ukraine against persons responsible
for trumping up a case against Nadiya Savchenko to Martin Schulz. The Head of
State underlined the necessity of preserving the EU sanctions against Russia
until it fully implements the Minsk agreements.
The President
also invited Martin Schulz to visit Ukraine and take part in the commemoration
of the 30th anniversary
of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
