The Cabinet of
Ministers of Ukraine on February 15, 2016 decided to suspend transit movement
of Russian trucks on the Ukrainian territory, according to a Monday posting on
the government's website.
"The Russian Federation in violation of rules and
procedures of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and bilateral
intergovernmental agreement on haulage by road on a unilateral basis stopped
movement of Ukrainian trucks on the territory of Russia. Until Russia presents
explanations and the issues is settled Ukraine temporarily suspends transit
transportation by trucks registered in Russia on the territory of Ukraine. The
protocol decision was made at a cabinet meeting held on Monday morning,
February 15," the cabinet said.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said that
due to the fact that the Russian Federation violated the WTO rules and
procedures and on a unilateral basis stopped movement of Ukrainian trucks on
the territory of Russia, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine urgently sent a note
to Russia demanding to expand the illegal actions.
"Until receiving explanations and settling the dispute
Ukraine temporarily suspends transit permits issued to trucks registered in the
Russian Federation, which entails temporary stoppage of transit transportation
by trucks from Russia on the territory of Ukraine," the prime minister
said.
He added that Ukraine demands that Russia urgently
fulfills the WTO requirements and resume transit movement of Ukrainian trucks.
Yatseniuk also said that Ukraine is holding
consultations with EU members and sending requests to the EU members regarding
the fulfillment of the WTO basic principles by the Russian Federation.
As reported, Sumy region was the tenth region where
Ukrainian activists are blocking trucks with registration in Russia.
The Transport Ministry of Russia on Sunday said that
the movement of trucks registered in Ukraine was suspended in Russia.
