Securing a political solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine remains
a priority, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.
"Having realized the cost of this issue, I insisted, I am insisting
and will continue to insist that a political settlement process remains a
priority. Beyond any doubt, we opt for peace, but peace not at any cost. We
will not surrender even a shred of Ukrainian land," Poroshenko said at a
meeting with Ukrainian servicemen who defended Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
"Our shared goal is to restore the territorial integrity of
Ukraine, our sovereignty over each piece of Ukrainian land, as well as maintain
and protect Ukraine's independence from any aggressor invading our land,"
the president said.
Today the Ukrainian Armed Forces are fully prepared to defend their
country, he said.
"Today, having made tremendous efforts, we have
become strong enough to be ready to defend [Ukraine]. I stress the word
defend," Poroshenko said.
