German Chancellor Angela Merkel considers that
Russia's participation in the G7 meetings is impossible.
She stated this in an interview with dpa.
"G7 is a group of states that are united
with such values as democracy and the rule of law. Our principles include
protection of international law and inviolability of borders, as it is the
basis of our world order. And the Russian annexation of Crimea is a violation of
the international law," Merkel said.
According to her, at the same the interest in
further cooperation with Russia, which is essential to resolving a number of
conflicts, such as in Syria, is maintained. In this regard, Merkel maintains
regular contact with the Russian President.
The Federal Chancellor noted that the G7 summit
participants would discuss "Minsk process, which is aimed to provide a
political and peaceful settlement of situation in the east of Ukraine."
