Japan in solidarity with other countries in the G7 with respect to Russia


The official representative of the Japanese Foreign Ministry said that Japan imposed sanctions against Russia in the past year in connection with the Crimea. He noted that, if the situation remains unchanged, Japan will continue to apply sanctions.

TOKYO, June 4, Japan adheres to the joint position with other countries, G7 on sanctions against Russia, said Thursday an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the eve of a trip of Prime Minister Shinzō Abe to Germany, where he will participate in the summit of G7.

"Japan's position is the same as in other countries, G7. We insist on the importance of solidarity with the countries of the group on this issue. We have taken steps in the past year in connection with the Crimea. If the situation remains unchanged, we will continue these measures. If the situation deteriorates we will have to think again about the measures. If the situation gets better, we will think about it in the other direction. Of course, taking into account the discussions on this with other countries ", - said the representative of the Foreign Ministry.


Japanese Prime Minister will participate in the summit of the G7 countries in Germany, where he will arrive after a visit to Kiev, where he will meet with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and other officials. At the meetings in Germany will discuss the economy, geopolitics, including the situation in Ukraine, the problem of global climate change, international policy, the fight against terrorism. Japan will host the next summit in 2016.

Shinzō Abe will fly from Japan to Kiev on Friday, and will return home after the G7 summit on Tuesday.
