President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Chair of Transparency International José Ugaz.
The Head of State informed the Chair of Transparency International on the progress of Ukraine in the struggle against corruption, particularly the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The President informed on legislative amendments on reformation of prosecution system, appointment of new Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of changes introduced by the Prosecutor General in his Office.
Petro Poroshenko noted the creation of the National Anti-Corruption Agency and the introduction of the new law on electronic declaration. He is hopeful that the law will enter into force shortly and improve the transparency of officials.
José Ugaz said that Ukraine was one of the most transparent countries of the world in the sphere of anti-corruption legislation. However, he drew attention to the necessity of implementation of all legislative amendments in this sphere.
The President urged the Chair of Transparency International to facilitate the return of funds and property stolen by Yanukovych’s regime to Ukraine.
José Ugaz confirmed readiness of Transparency International to develop cooperation with competent authorities of Ukraine in the investigation of corruption cases, particularly in the detection and return of assets illegally withdrawn from Ukraine by former government officials.
The meeting was also attended by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin.
