President of Ukraine signed the Law of Ukraine №920-VIII «On Amendments
to the Law of Ukraine" On the National Guard of Ukraine "regarding
the improvement of the legal framework for the National Guard of Ukraine."
The relevant law was passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine December 24, 2015.
The law specifies the legal basis of the activities and powers of the
National Guard of Ukraine, governs the organization, order of service units of
the National Guard under and their interaction with law enforcement agencies,
local authorities and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The law also regulates the number of National Guard of Ukraine.
Under the Act, the Commander of the National Guard appointed by the
President on the recommendation of the Minister of Internal Affairs and
dismissed by the President.
The law also gives the right to foreigners and stateless persons who are
lawfully present in the territory of Ukraine on a voluntary basis (the
contract), to perform military service in the National Guard of Ukraine. These
cases are governed by the Law of Ukraine "On Military Duty and Military
Service."
