First, the parties cannot achieve more through military means. Secondly, people are dying and the infrastructure of a huge country is being destroyed in front of the whole world. Third, the start of peace negotiations does not mean at all that Ukraine recognizes Russia’s right to the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.
Calls for peace negotiations are heard against the backdrop of political leapfrog in Washington, where there has been a paralysis of political will and a successful Russian special operation to block the western borders of Ukraine.
The supply of weapons and financial assistance to Ukraine is under threat. Scholz, intimidated by Putin, looks incompetent before our eyes. Thus, the circumstances and allies are pushing Ukraine towards a ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations with Russia.
Fortunately, world leadership does not tolerate a vacuum. French President Emmanuel Macron has risen like an unexpectedly grandiose political Mont Blanc. Nota bene, Macron received Zelenskyy at the Elysee Palace, even before Zelenskyy became president of Ukraine.
Macron caused a storm in politics by admitting the possibility of sending French troops to Ukraine. He also stressed that Russia must not win the war against Ukraine and added that the security of Europe is at stake.
It is noteworthy that statements about the impossibility of Ukraine achieving more by military means on the battlefield intensified precisely when the Ukrainian armed forces began to successfully shoot down Russian planes, Ukrainian drones began to destroy Russian oil bases, and all the achievements of the Russian months-long offensive culminated in the capture of the village of Avdievka.
Someone may have the idea that some of Ukraine’s friends and all of its enemies are frightened by the very thought of a possible victory for Ukraine. Indeed, in this case, a powerful regional state will emerge in Eastern Europe, with a powerful army and enormous natural human resources. Such a state will force other players to make room on the world stage.
Regarding the death of Ukrainians and their children, as well as the destruction of infrastructure, the following is obvious. The goal of Putin and the overwhelming majority of the Russian people is the destruction of Ukrainian statehood and the Ukrainian people.
A ceasefire and peace negotiations will entail a significantly higher number of casualties among the Ukrainian population in the territories occupied by Russia. Remember Bucha, remember the torture centers of Kupyansk and Kherson. A ceasefire now means giving Russia carte blanche to kill unwanted Ukrainians and resettle Ukrainian families in Siberia. After all, this has already happened!
The thesis that the start of peace negotiations does not mean that Ukraine recognizes Russia’s right to the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia does not stand up to criticism. This thesis is designed for naive people, which many foreign politicians still consider Ukrainians to be. But if Ukrainians are so naive, then why can’t Putin defeat them so far? Peace negotiations mean only one thing - surrender. The capitulation of Ukraine to Russia with all the ensuing consequences.
Peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will immediately nullify the responsibility and punishment of Putin and his cronies for all war crimes. These peace negotiations will nullify the compensation for damages caused by Russia to Ukraine. These peace negotiations will allow other countries to participate in the governance of certain territories of Ukraine (for example, Crimea).
Finally, these peace negotiations with the insane psychopath Putin will lead to nothing other than a beneficial respite from the war for Russia. The very fact of such negotiations will mean betrayal of the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians killed and tortured by Russia.
