Ukrainian President: 10 million biometric passports are the answer to those who said that Ukrainians do not need the visa-free regime

President Petro Poroshenko handed over the ten-millionth biometric passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad. Its owner is Polina Savina from Kyiv.
"Nearly two years ago, I had a great honor, I was the first citizen of Ukraine to get a biometric passport at number one. My wife received at number 100. And today, the 10-millionth Ukrainian citizen will get a passport," the Head of State said.
"What does this figure mean? ... 10 million means that those who said that Ukrainians do not need the visa-free regime, Ukrainians do not need biometric passports turned out to be wrong," Petro Poroshenko said and noted that 10 million means that every fourth Ukrainian has received a biometric passport.

According to the Head of State, young Ukrainians who were present today during the ceremony are also looking forward to receiving their biometric passports. "I am sincerely hopeful that when Davyd and Vlada will be adult enough to get their biometric passports, along with the state emblem of Ukraine, the European Union will be also written there. And Ukraine will be a member of the European Union," he said.
The Head of State said: "Ukraine has gone a long path to the right to have biometric passports that grant the right to visa-free travel to the European Union".
He recalled that the plan of action for the visa-free regime envisaged 144 reforms that were to be made by the President, Government, Parliament, Ministry of Internal Affairs, migration service.
The president also noted that today Ukrainians receive new passports not in "basements of ZhEK", but in clean, light, interesting centers of administrative services, where all conditions are created for both adults and children.
"Ukrainian passports are accepted by Europe for more than a year. And we did not create any problems for our European Union partners, as we promised. On the contrary, Ukrainians are invited. And we say - no. We will create better working conditions, so that Ukrainians remain in Ukraine and travel (to Europe - ed.) as tourists, students, entrepreneurs. And I think it's the right direction," Petro Poroshenko said.
Polina Savina said she was very happy that her passport became special. "Today, I am happy twice. First of all, because I live in a free, independent Ukraine. And secondly, I'm happy, because I was so honored to get the 10-millionth foreign biometric passport and from the hands of the President. This is an incredible moment for me today. I am very glad to be present here and I want to congratulate everyone on this great step towards our European integration," the owner of the 10-millionth passport said.
