World Cup can’t hide Syrian plight
As millions of viewers around settle down in front of their TVs for the next four weeks to watch the World Cup in Russia, they should spare a thought for the 2.7 million civilians corralled in Idlib province in northern Syria by the Russian and Syrian regimes.
Air strikes carried out by Russia and Syria continue to kill hundreds of civilians, mostly women and children. These people cannot go anywhere, they cannot surrender and they are starving in the searing heat of the Syrian summer. While world leaders turn a blind eye, who knows what horrors will happen unnoticed?
