Russian Justice Minister
Alexander Konovalov announces that his ministry has already received documents
from the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for the transfer of Ukrainian
pilot, MP and member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Nadia Savchenko to
Ukraine, according to RIA Novosti.
"We have received Savchenko's documents from the Federal Penitentiary
Service," he said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum on
Wednesday.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on March 22, Russia's Donetsk city court in
Rostov region sentenced
Savchenko to 22 years in prison for the alleged murder
of two Russian journalists.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told Ukrainian TV
channels that he "firmly hoped" that the presidential plane would
bring the illegally convicted Savchenko back home from Russia within a few
weeks.
On April 27, Savchenko's lawyer Ilya Novikov claimed his client had
reportedly received documents for extradition
to Ukraine and projected she might return home in the
latter half of May.
