A Fish Called Wanda is a 1988 American-British heist comedy film, written by John Cleese and Charles Crichton. The film was directed by Crichton (his final
film) and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, and Michael Palin as the crew of a successful diamond heist as they manipulate and double-cross one-another in an effort to find
the diamonds, which have been hidden by the gang's leader just before he was
arrested, having been set up by one of his subordinates. His barrister, played by Cleese, becomes a central figure in
the crew's schemes as femme fatale Wanda (Curtis) uses him to locate the
loot.
The film was nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, winning Best Supporting Actor for Kline. Cleese and Palin won BAFTA Awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for their performances.
