Government approves a bill to demonopolize electricity market

The Government of Ukraine has approved and will submit to the Parliament a draft law On the Electricity Market, which allows to demonopolize the market.
The bill, which was backed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its session today, stipulates thatenterprises shall conclude direct contracts with power producers while citizens - independently choose anelectricity provider, informed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Apart from that, the draft will afford to increase competition among the electricity producers: "All of themwill be engaged in tough competition for better price and volumes (of delivery)", the Head of Government stressed.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted the importance to align the law on the electricity market with European standards and to prevent an opportunity for the government-run monopoly on the market.
