The Russian emergencies ministry's humanitarian convoy to Donbas has
reached the state border and is undergoing customs procedures, a ministry
spokesman told TASS on Thursday.
Before the
border, the convoy broke in two. One is now at the Donetsk border crossing
point, while the other one has reached the Matveyev Kurgan check point at the
border. After customs procedures, the trucks will head for Donetsk and
Luhansk," the spokesman said, TASS reports.
The convoy
of more than 100 trucks set off for the Donetsk and Luhansk regions from the
Don rescue center in Russia's southern Rostov in the early hours on Thursday.
The convoy is carrying more than 1,100 tonnes of humanitarian aid. The cargoes
include food products, daily necessities, New Year presents for children and
the elder, textbooks and medicines.
Since August
2014, the Russian emergencies ministry has sent 47 humanitarian convoys to
Donbas. About 55,500 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes have been delivered over
this period.
